Jinshanling is the Great Wall for walkers: 10 km of restored and wild wall over the ridge toward Simatai, with thirty watchtowers and, on most days, a handful of other people. We leave Beijing at 6:30 to be on the wall by 9, walk east for three to four hours, and have a late lunch in the village below before the drive back.

Three to four hours of walking with long staircases, some crumbling. Fit walkers from 10 up are fine; it is hard in rain.
Mutianyu is the easier half-day; it is on my profile.
